Encosta Jewel – Hoping for a win for sick kids 

David Hayes’ debutant Encosta Jewel carrys the hopes of the 1000s who benefit from the great work of the Starlight Foundation when she races at Rosehill on Saturday. 

Melbourne Starball committee man Mark Pilkington and his guests won the car raffle at last years 10th annual Melbourne Starball. “We decided to sell the Hyundai we won and sink the proceeds into a horse with our table mate David Hayes (a long time supporter of the Starball)” said Pilkington.

“By giving a portion of our prizemoney to the Melbourne Starball we were hoping it would be the ‘donation that just keeps giving’- to win the Magic Millions would certainly help us fulfill the Starballs mission statement of – putting smiles on the faces of sick kids”, he added.

The non government funded Starlight Foundation provides amazing support for all sick children and their families. The Melbourne Staball alone has raised in excess of $3m and provided funding for the amazing Starlight room which has become a sanctuary for sick kids hospitalised in the new Melbourne Children’s Hospital.
